Penguins! Well okay, not quite, other than this poor stuffed soul and his/her chick in a glass case. The Polar Museum in Cambridge is dedicated to research on both poles. It’s exhibit is small but interesting. Who knew Antarctic supplies included tinned pemmican?
The Fitzwilliam Museum is the art and antiquities museum of the University of Cambridge. The collection is interesting but I found the building itself much more compelling. High ceilings, domes allowing natural light in, a grand staircase that, while under some renovation, still maintained its grace and beauty. Lions guard the museum and its treasures. They seem to disapprove of the levity occurring under their very noses!

The Ruskin Gallery is part of the Anglia Ruskin University. Today it featured photographs by second and third year students on the general theme of mental wellness. This photograph fascinates me; the photographer, Alix Odaryuk, is portraying mental illness as something that is there but can’t be seen. I think it’s an excellent, if troubling, piece of work. I apologize for the reflection – it was unavoidable.
Along my wandering path today I encountered several buskers. I was surprised (don’t know why!) to find two of them playing the accordion. And I was mightily impressed by the young man who has found what he loves doing and loves making others happy.

I discovered that there is a hamburger war in Cambridge. One burger joint serves honest hamburgers. Another serves proper hamburgers. A third delivers the ultimate and world’s best burger. I cannot comment – I tried none of them. Next time you’re in Cambridge be sure to let me know which is best.
Tomorrow Berlin. Cambridge has been great. Thank you so much Joan Bryans for putting up with me and showing me the town.
