Westhampton Beach – a market and the pool
My third home away from home

And now, said John Cleese, for something completely different! A slower pace, a pool and some little kiddies, most welcome after my frenetic two weeks in Europe.

Westhampton Beach is a village on Long Island, a narrow spit of land east of the city. It seems to be fuelled by tourism, though today there were enough local artisans to populate a good sized farmers’ market. Corn on the cob, tomatoes, fresh pasta, pesto, guacamole, peaches, bread, key lime pie – all came home with us this morning.

A restored carriage house complete with restored carriage interested my great-niece Nora and my sister Shirley too!

There’s a butterfly bush outside the house which is heavily populated during the day by monarchs and other butterflies. Many of them are happy to pose for photos.

This warm afternoon was time for a swim. My niece, Becca, and her husband, Jeff, and their two children Nora and Henry splashed happily and chased bubbles as I snapped away with my camera.

As the day came to a close, we dined on our fresh farmer’s market fare and enjoyed the setting sun. See you tomorrow.

Thanks Shelley. This has been a great trip and a week of taking it easy suits me just fine for now.
