On the Move

Crazy (happy) in San Francisco
Just south of Gualala

Heading south from Gualala along California’s spectacular coast today required close attention, as yesterday, to twisty turny uppy downy cliff-hugging roads, but also to increasing automobile and cycling traffic as I neared San Francisco. Today is Saturday, the weather is beautiful and northern Californians must have been itching to get out and about.

Early in the day some mist blanketed the coast. It’s sometimes difficult to drive with such views outside my window.

Mist creating a dreamy effect on the coast

The northern California coast continued to inspire. (Did you know that if you click on my photos you will see an enlarged version?)

Kayakers near Jenner
Duncan’s Cove in Sonoma County
Portuguese Beach in Sonoma County – beach goers still distancing

After a couple of hours I reached Point Reyes National Seashore, a great place for birding. And lucky for me, one of the things I most like to do is shoot birds (with my camera of course!). I took these photos along side Bolinas Bay.

A raven coming in to land
A long-billed curlew looking for a meal
Yoga class for these Canada Geese – tree pose
White heron, regal as always
Brown pelicans hanging out with exceedingly lazy California sea lions

I was so happy to finally arrive in San Francisco and return my rental car though I have to say this trip has been a tonic for my soul. I embraced my daughter and son-in-law, but because my two grandsons were strapped into their car seats we delayed our hugs til we reached home. Then we hugged and hugged and hugged …

I know what you mean. Virtual chatting is a poor substitute for the real thing, but it is at least something. I am definitely enjoying those hugs!

I’ll bet you valued each site knowing how special it is to be able to travel and enjoy the environment. With your special treat at the end making it even more exciting. Enjoy your visit.

The road trip was indeed wonderful. Such a change from my same old, same old life at home – or at least that’s how it felt. I had trouble telling days apart as there was no structure that made one day different from the others.
