On the Move

A very East Coast road trip

Two years ago I planned a trip to Newfoundland & Labrador and we all know what happened back then. Yup, I had to cancel.

Happily, I have resurrected that trip and am excited to visit Canada’s most easterly province, to say nothing of taking a short hop over to France. I will be making all of the red-circled stops on the map to the left, to photograph people and landscape and especially puffins, gannets and icebergs.

The photo in the header of this post is not mine, but I am hoping to find such scenes on my travels.

My sister Tracey is travelling with me for the first half of my trip. It will be fun to have company – and a driver! – for part of the way. It is always nice to see the world through another set of eyes. Fingers crossed she will have patience with my typically slow photographic processes.

This is not the best time for a long road trip given gas prices, but I don’t want to delay again. As a dear friend who just returned from Portugal where gas prices were “crazy high” wrote – “But it’s only money.” I am working at being as philosophical as my friend. 🙃

I hope you will travel along with me for this journey through Newfoundland, Labrador and St. Pierre and Miquelon. À bientôt!

Welcome to the Rock. Say hello to Gander, my home town when you drive through it, and check out the famous airport terminal.

I remember you telling me that you were the first baby of Chinese ethnicity to be born in NL. Or was that your father?? 🧐

Thanks Helen! Not flying into NL, but flying out in due course. I’m meeting my sister in Moncton tomorrow and we’re taking the ferry from North Sydney.

Have you been to the Hopewell Rocks? About half an hour from Moncton.

Indeed, though that sounds a little like a mastercard ad. Which is appropriate because my mastercard will be getting a workout! 🙂

I’m glad to see you’re traveling again. I assume you are flying to Newfoundland and renting a car there.

Mike and I will be spending a week in London and Paris this fall, but before I meet him in London, I’ll be spending a month traveling in Ireland and the western part of England.

Hi Shelley, Yes, it’s nice to be travelling again. I’m in North Sydney, NS right now, taking the ferry to Port aux Basques this morning.

When will you be in Ireland? I’ll be there from Sept 6 to 29th. Maybe we can meet up!

What fun. I visited many of those places on a Newfoundland Circumnavigation cruise and 2 week road trip in 2014. I did not make it to Labrador though. That is on the retirement road trip plan. I will be watching your travels with great jealousy!
