On the Move

Art of two kinds and a pitchers’ duel

A rainy day in Toronto – great time for indoor exploration. Time to hit one of the Top 10 Toronto’s recommendations – the Art Gallery of Ontario. I was expecting to be impressed mostly by the art within. Instead I was captivated by the gallery itself.

With liberal use of Douglas Fir and various technological helpers, the Gallery is a wood clad work of art. Curving staircases, peek-a-boo outlooks to lower floors and high ceilings lend this building a feeling of calm and airiness. It felt just so … organic!

Here are a few photos to give you a sense of this marvellous building. Clicking on a photo will give you an enlarged view.

I thought I had maxed out on the beauty of this gallery until I discovered …

an entire room devoted to Lawren Harris! At this point I realized I had fallen in love with the Art Gallery of Ontario and kicked myself for purchasing a single ticket rather than a membership with unlimited visits for $5 more.

My younger son turned 42 today. When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said he wanted me to go to a Blue Jays game and to send him some photos.

On the way to Rogers Stadium I passed the entrance to the CN Tower which apparently provides an amazing view of the city and Lake Ontario. But not today. 😠

Major league baseball games are always fun. There is so much going on pre-game and between innings, and for the most part folks are cheerful. The Jays beat the Mariners 1-0 in the bottom of the 10th. Sadly I wimped out and left at the bottom of the 9th. But it was great fun to watch this pitchers’ duel.

I know. I’m tired of the rain and the cold too! 😋

Exquisite building and photos to match. I can’t believe they are from a phone! You really captured the light on those beautiful wooden shapes. Lovely, Nancy!

I always loved visiting the AGO when I was in TO! The last time I was there the museum was being renovated and your photos show how beautiful it turned out!

I love it when the building is as artistic as the art it contains.
