On the Move

Hallstatt, with a population around 750, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the shore of the Hallstätter See. It’s about a 90 mimute drive from Salzburg. In high season as many as 10,000 tourists per day pour in to photograph this beautiful place. The residents hate the tourists but badly need their income. I feel badly about contributing to their distress but it did not, however, stop me from taking photos with the glorious fall colours. Maybe now you won’t have to go yourself. 😉

One of the many churches – the one that is in all the marketing photos of Hallstatt – is impressive from the outside but quite disappointing on the inside.

Here are some miscellaneous photos, and a note from the residents to tourists.

Bis morgen – mein letzter Tag in Salzburg. 🙂

As an Upper-Austrian (although, not a resident of Hallstatt 😉) I can assure you that we don’t hate the tourists. We just hate overtourism and the problems it creates…

Thank you for your comment. I love my time in Salzburg and around that area. It was my first time in Austria and I hope to return.
