On the Move

My trip from Salzburg to Zürich was not without incident. The Saltzburg train left five minutes late, cutting my transfer time in Munich to an uncomfortable margin. However, I ran and made the train to Zürich, found my seat and thought – wow, good so far. Then we sat there for a full hour before leaving – something to do with having to clean the Restaurant car – so the train was unable travel all the way into Zürich HBF. It stopped about half an hour short of Zürich and everyone got off and changed trains. All was well in the end as I arrived at my hotel with 15 minutes to spare before the orientation for my Road Scholar trip.

Fishing on the Zürichsee

As the map above shows, we are starting with one full day in Zürich and then heading tomorrow to Chur via Appenzell and St. Gallen. After Chur we head south to Brig via Zermatt, hopefully to get a peek at the Matterhorn. Next stop is Lausanne, then Basel and finally back to Zürich. Whew!

A young woman gave a talk this morning on Switzerland, its culture, its four official languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh), its economy and political system and then we went on a walkabout. We lunched on a boat on the Zürichsee. The lunch was terrible but the view was wonderful! See the video below..

We visited the Fraumünster Cathdral with its famous stain glass windows by Marc Chagall. I thought the organ and the windows by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti looked just as compelling.

Other scenes around Zürich:

The social scene is active around the Limmat River.

And finally, some just plain interesting sights.

Auf nach Chur. Bis später.

Zürich looks beautiful, especially with the changing leaves.

Gotta say, I am really enjoying these fall leaves. I think I am having a much more colourful experience than if I’d come during the summer.

I do enjoy seeing the buildings as the vast majority were constructed to be beautiful! It doesn’t hurt to see the marvellous scenery as well. Eric

Thanks Eric. I’m more of a people and architectural photographer than a landscape photographer, so I’m happiest in a city with lots of buildings and lots of people. 😊

Looks very nice mom. I wonder what kind of fish the fishermen were targeting….keep having fun!

Thanks, Alex, I appreciate your comment. I asked our group leader what the fisherman were targeting and he showed me a chart of at least 10 fish that are in that lake. So I am not sure if they had a target or would just take anything that they could catch.
