After landing at Kangerlussuaq, a former US airbase, and passing through painfully slow customs – I got the sense they were figuring out their software. Perhaps a new system following takeover threats?? – we boarded our ship. I have a solo cabin, very small but efficient. Sitting on the toilet, I can see out my window and miss none of the action! ðĪŠ

Overnight we travelled to the Evighedsfjorden. We woke to a moody Greenland but peaceful once the water calmed. While moving up the fjord, we enjoyed welcoming ceremonies with Linda, our Inuit host on this trip, who demonstrated drum dancing. The song she sang was a happy welcome-to-my-home piece.
Following the drum dancing, she and John demonstrated throat singing. They finish with peals of laughter as throat singing is a competition between friends. I couldn’t tell who won this time!

We headed out in zodiacs to explore the glacier and check out icebergs and a colony of at least 5,000 kittiwakes. We witnessed the calving from the glacier of a piece of ice the size of a six storey building. It was truly remarkable. There are eight photos. Be sure to flip through all eight.
Tomorrow we will spend the morning in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, and then head home to the Canadian Arctic. See you tomorrow!
