On the Move

Vermont Fall Colours

I’ve never experienced East Coast leaf season, so when the Backcountry Journeys Vermont Fall Colors workshop (strangely all Backcountry Journeys trips are called workshops, not journeys) opened up and my travel buddy, Dianne, suggested we go, I jumped at the chance. That was in February 2025.

While I am very much looking forward to luxuriating in fall colours and to wandering around Boston as an added treat, I suspect that I might not have signed up for this workshop in the current political climate. But it’s paid for, and I’ve never seen leaves … etc. etc.

The photo of autumn aspen leaves at the top of this post is not from Vermont. I took it nine years ago at Fish Lake, Utah on a trip with my travel buddy who I caught photographing fall foliage and her wife.

I began my journey five days ago with a visit to Princeton, NJ to spend time with my sister, Shirley. While there we visited the new Princeton University Art Museum, and took in a very fine play – Disruption by Andrew Stein – in New York.

This installation in the Art Museum is “A Twilight Labyrinth (Alchemy)” by Josiah McElheny. How many bottles are in the exhibit? Clicking on each photo will give you a larger view though that may not help you determine how many bottles are included.

I will be spending four days wandering around Boston, a city I have not before visited. I have an interesting itinerary, one that was suggested by Google’s AI. Yes, on occasion I find AI quite helpful, though Disruption showed what could happen if it runs rampant. I am looking forward to visiting the Harvard and MIT campuses and to enjoying Boston Clam chowder. I was hoping there might be a major league baseball playoff game at Fenway Stadium, but the Red Sox are playing the Yankees in New York.

On October 5, I’m driving to Burlington, Vermont to start a five-day photography tour of beautiful New England. I am ready to be stunned by the extraordinary fall colours and hope you’ll travel along with me!

I’m looking forward to leaf-peeping with you next week! I’m hoping the rain gives us a break and while I’m wishing, perhaps a rainbow or two!

    Your Travel Buddy,
