Now might not seem like the ideal time to embark on a road trip from Vancouver to San Francisco, but the time has come to take a deep breath and head on out. My daughter and her family are in need of an extra pair of hands and some spice in their life (π), and I am in need of big hugs from my grandsons!
I am flying to Seattle as the land border is closed to folk like me, then renting a car for the four-day drive along the Pacific Coast highway. I am taking it slow to allow plenty of time for photographs along the way, stopping at Seaside and Coos Bay in Oregon, and Eureka and Gualala in northern California.

I am travelling fully equipped – I hope! – with masks, disposable gloves (π₯΄), hand sanitizer and wipes to use with sanitizer on hard surfaces. I am staying at hotels that prominently display their sanitizing protocals but will wipe everything down anyway. And between my sunglasses and a mask, there is very little of my face left showing.
I tested negative for COVID-19 a couple of days ago, and will be tested in San Francisco the day after I arrive. Quarantining is not required by California, but I will continue to wear a mask until my second set of negative test results are in. I will have to quarantine upon my return on August 23rd, so have stocked my freezer and cupboards with essentials, and grocery delivery andΒ my wonderfully generous friends will keep me supplied with produce.
Wish me luck! See you tomorrow from Seaside.
