Gaspé day 1 – travel with an unexpected guardian angel
I have circled Québec City, Gaspé and Percé

Today began with an Uber taking me to YHU (Montreal Metropolitan Airport). It is undergoing expansion but right now is one small building housing Pascan, the airline to take me to Gaspé. There’s no security at YHU, so we loaded, unscanned, onto a small plane heading for Gaspé with an intermediate stop at Québec City’s Jean-Lesage International Airport.

This plane was so small the air host (steward?) could not stand upright. It was so small there were only three seats across. We disembarked at Jean-LeSage to go through security and pick up more passengers. Our luggage was off-loaded and put through security as well. What a good thing we didn’t have anyone nasty on the first leg of the trip!

We landed in Gaspé following a nail-biting descent, and I for one was glad to be on firm ground until Uber informed me, mere minutes before the scheduled pick up, that they could not find a driver for my trip to Percé that I had booked way back on March 6. Oh no! What to do? The only taxi company informed me they *might* have a cab to take me to Percé in an hour. I am in the middle of nowhere (hyperbole, I know, but it felt that way!) and SOL! Excuse my French. 😉

Fortunately, there were two people waiting at the car rental desk, and one of them was Lydia, my new-found guardian angel who was also headed for Percé and, seeing my distress, offered to give me a ride. Let’s hear it for guardian angels! 👏👏

I have cancelled my booking for a return Uber as I now know there is one road from Percé to Gaspé and it goes by the airport unless you head south through New Brunswick, an outcome I refuse to consider. I will beg my fellow workshoppers for a lift on Sunday!

Below is the view from my room at Hôtel La Normandie. It’s quite cold here: while the daffodils are done, the tulips are just blooming (see the banner photo above). There’s a nearby grocery store that carries diet Coke and a liquor store that sells wine, and I have brought warm clothing! Things are definitely looking up!

I had dinner at The Fisherman’s House, near my hotel. The linguines du pêcheur (“fisherman’s linguines with shrimp, scallops and lobster” and three unexpected mussels) was delicious and the chablis set it off perfectly.

Tomorrow I will go exploring as my workshop does not start until Thursday. On se voit demain. Merci d’avoir lu.

You certainly had a guardian angel. I would say typically Canadian. I am glad you had such a nice meal. Have fun exploring tomorrow! EC

Too bad you don’t have a sister in New Brunswick who could have joined and driven you! LOL! I am so looking forward to seeing your photos from the Gaspe!
