The thing about this photo workshop is that it’s JUST a workshop and definitely not a tour. Nothing but photography is included; no hotel reservations and meals which are usually part of the tours I take.
Chris’s instructions say “It can be challenging to find a restaurant that is open early enough for our breakfast, so be sure to get something from the grocery store for breakfast, a picnic lunch on the island, snacks and enough water to stay hydrated for the day.”
I scouted out the grocery store and the “sandwicherie” – photos below – so I should be prepared.
Chris’s instructions also say: “Typical days start with a meeting on the town pier at 05:00, then jumping into our Zodiac and spending a few hours out under the Gannet colony photographing diving Gannets and all of the other species that live on cliffs of the island (weather and sea permitting). We will land on the island in time for its opening at 09:00 and make our way to the colony [a 3.3 km hike by the way – I looked it up!] for the rest of the day. We will stay at the colony until about 16:00, then make our way to the last ferry back to the mainland.”
The banner photo to this post is of Bonaventure Island, taken from my hotel room. I’m not sure when I will look at my photos, but I will try to send a few every day.
Since this blog seems to have morphed into a foodie blog, I must tell you about this evening’s dinner. I returned to the restaurant from last evening – The Fisherman’s House. Once more they brought me a little gratis appetizer of crackers and cod butter. I’ve never come across cod butter but trust me, it is delicious. My main course this evening was pétoncles poêlés, whisky, raisins et nois de Grenoble – pan seared scallops, whisky, raisins and walnuts served with lobster risotto and vegetables. Absolutely delicious!
That’s it for today. I hope you’ve enjoyed. Until tomorrow and photos of gannets! Bonne nuit. 🥱
