Sevegre – a sighting, a journey and a farewell dinner

Quetzel paparazziOur last foray in Sevegre found us looking at this crowd scene at 6 am. Was Jennifer Lawrence expected to make an entrance? Ryan Gosling perhaps? No! Someone spotted a resplendent quetzal! Once again I tried to get that great shot and ended up with less. But at least I can say, as I leave San Gerardo de Dota, that the resplendent quetzal is real.

Along the way from Sevegre to San Jose, we stopped to take advantage of the view. I took the photo at the top of this page with my wide angle lens, happy that the occasion arose. Costa Rica is an extraordinary country in so many ways: in its commitment to sustainability, in its provision of free healthcare for all, in its lengthy stable democracy in a continent familiar with dictators and unstable governments.

lunchAlong the way from Sevegre to San Jose we stopped at a restaurant for lunch. I haven’t been taking food photos because we have been eating mostly buffets. This meal included salad, rice, chicken stew, a tortilla with a cassava/meat mixture, plaintain, beans and even a fried egg – enough to feed about three of me.

Outside the restaurant I found these street scenes.

Along the way from Sevegre to San Jose I had to find a way to say goodbye to these wonderful people who have made my journey to Costa Rica so wonderful. Thank you to you all. I wish you happy and safe travels in the future.

    Nancy,
Looks like it was a fun time! Thanks for sharing. I went with Road Scholar to Cuba in Feb 2015. A good trip (though not as superb as our India trip with our guide Shazil; unfortunately, I have not gotten around to sharing the story/photos.
    Best,
    Dennis

Hi Dennis, it was a great time. It’s certainly hard for guides to measure up to Shagzil but these two young’uns sure did! I imaging Cuba would have been fun!

Hi Helen, Yes! Let me know when you are in Vancouver. Mary is doing a fly-through – arriving 9 pm one evening and leaving the mid-morning the next day. Looking forward to seeing you both!

Your photos are stunning, Nancy! Especially the orchids! And the basilisks, and the birds, and …! You have a knack for the travelogue, too. Thanks for the pleasure!
    Cheers, Fran

Ha ha! Wouldn’t I love to put a book together!! But alas, my skills fall well short of publication. Writing this blog is fun and if it provides pleasure for others, then that’s all the better. See you soon!
